Somebody managed to build a midi interface to the sound chip of a Sega Megadrive and control it with an iPad and the result is honestly….., well…. kinda crappy

When I saw the title of this vid, I was like, wow, that’s awesome. But then I watched it and the sound is well, just not that great.

It just sounds like a really pretty bland 2 operator FM synth. Get any of the 80s Yamaha PS series keyboards that pretty much all had this type of synthesis built in for around $25 on Ebay, and no need for an ipad either.

I applaud the device and hack, but don’t see anything appealing in the result.

Brilliant chiptune site emulates Amiga Workbench and hosts a ton of great stuff

chiptunes website

There’s all sorts of Amiga stuff popping up lately on the web, and this is one of the coolest things so far. It’s a full blown Workbench interface that runs in your browser. It has a working command line, as well as runs several of the old popular Amiga demos and has shortcuts to them right on the desktop. Aside from all that, it’s also a huge library of free chiptunes in their native formats, SIDs, MODs, XTs, etc, links to other chiptune related things, an ftp directory hosting various players, videos and info. All around just a great little corner of the web!

I downloaded several chiptune packs and am listening as I write this, hehe. Anyway, just thought I’d share this awesome website. Enjoy!
