Granted the science behind all of this is absolutely fascinating, but am I the only one thinking the similarities between Starlink and the fictional Skynet are a bit too similar? Musk’s claim is they want to bring blazing fast internet to all parts of the earth, but a network of this size and power being controlled by a single entity seems kinda like a crazy idea to me. I do not like the idea of one company having this much power, and I’m not sure why people aren’t seeing this.
The way the internet currently works is broken up between various companies that distribute connections to various parts of the world, and there have already been concerns with internet control with companies like Comcast having too much power and threatening freedom on the net.
Also, there the major concern of; what else could a network of this size be used for? Is it possible Space X could re-purpose this insane satellite array for some other nefarious means? I’m sure the FCC doesn’t even fully understand the tech behind this network. Could Musk be some kind of Lex Luthor and be installing some kind of Trojan Horse that is literally surrounding the earth? These are all questions we should be asking right now. Does this guy have all our best interest at heart? Time has shown over and over that rich and powerful men rarely do large projects for altruistic reasons.
Also, what about all the EMF pollution? Our earth is already being bombarded by EMF, can we handle this much more? Will it really be good for sites like pornhub be floating around the entire earth creating some type of ‘pornmusphere’?
The future is weird, but I guess it’s pretty damn interesting.
