Ridiculously gigantic modular synth rig playing some wicked Arabic sounding jams

Youtuber Ebotronix called this piece Tango, which is strange since it doesn’t sound anything like a Tango. It is however awesome and sounds almost Arabic or Indian in parts. I’m not totally sure what the close up cam in the right corner is for either, but it sure does look scientific.

analog modular synthesizerI love analog modular stuff, but I don’t know how I could ever have that much space to house anything that large. I already have a drum set I barely ever see that is stored in a studio in Bushwick. Tiny midi devices seem to fit more into the NYC lifestyle. I do love seeing this stuff though.

Jupiter 8 performance by Synthmania featuring a TR-808 and Simmons SDSV brain

This is such a beautiful and mellow piece of electronic music. I really enjoyed it. SynthMania, who runs a pretty damn amazing Youtube channel, made this wonderful piece of music all in real-time using a plethora of vintage gear.

It’s so nice to hear the melodic side of synthesis and I think this performance shows how electronic instruments can be quite emotional, even when purely instrumental!

Enjoy!

Cool minimal song performed live on Korg SQ-1 / MS-20 / Arturia Minibrute

There are so many cool musicians on Youtube! Here’s another example of solo live synth playing that is incredibly well done. alternatingbitmusic‘s track Night Drive reminds me a bit of early Kraftwerk meets Richie Hawtin.

Check it out!

Meet C418, the creator of the Minecraft soundtrack

C418, The composer of Minecraft's Music

C418, The composer of Minecraft’s Music

While browsing Twitter I stumbled across a musician who I noticed had a lot of followers. I decided to check out his page and started seeing all of this Minecraft related things. I first I thought, wow this kid is really obsessed with Minecraft or thought it could be some marketing tactic for his music. Then reading more I started to realize that his albums weren’t Minecraft inspired albums, they were THE Minecraft albums. As in, he actually made all of the music featured in Minecraft!

“I bet that you can count the people that don’t know what Minecraft is on a single hand. Due to some magical mishap I was lucky enough to work on this unbelievably popular indie game. I received quite some acknowledgement through Mojangs rising popularity and it also is responsible for my current state in life.” Says Daniel Rosenfeld, who creates music under the name C418.

I have to admit to not really playing much Minecraft. I’ve noodled around in it a bit, but it didn’t really grab my attention. That being said, listening to the soundtrack is something else entirely. It’s very emotional and incredibly well crafted. The cool thing about it too, is it is a very Ambient soundtrack that could even be compared to the works of Brian Eno, John Serrie, or Klaus Schultz. It’s very refreshing to me to see so many players and listeners enjoying this type of music rather than mindless 3 minute pop songs like “All about that bass” (barf).

Anyway, check out C418s website if you like. He has a ton of great music there that spans a lot of different sounds and genres. You can also purchase tho official Minecraft music there as well!
